Delve deeper into the world of pets than you ever have before, with author and vet, Dr Jess French. In partnership with IF Oxford Science & Ideas Festival.
Pets and Their People provides inspiration for kids aged 7-9 who can't own pets, showing them that we can care for animals in lots of other ways - from volunteering at animal shelters to leaving food for them out in the wild. From old favourites such as playful puppies and cuddly cats, to more unusual pets such as lizards and snakes, to bugs and hedgehogs in parks and gardens, there are many fascinating animals to meet. Join Jess French, nature lover, TV presenter, author and qualified vet known for her CBeebies show Minibest Adventure with Jess
Followed by book signing
About Jess
Jess French is a veterinary surgeon, zoologist, children’s TV presenter, public speaker and author and caring for animals and the natural world is at the core of everything she does. From deep sea parasites to garden wildlife, Jess encourages audiences to fall in love with every aspect of the natural world, inside and out.
Jess started her presenting career on CBeebies, hosting the twenty part series ‘Minibeast Adventure with Jess’, which encouraged children to get outside and learn about the insects and invertebrates around them.
Most recently, Jess presented series 1 and 2 of ‘Wild Inside’, a Radio 4 series which explored the internal and external anatomy of a range of extraordinary animals. A role which was informed by her work as a vet, where she is comfortable treating the whole spectrum of animals, from domestic and farm to wildlife and zoo.
Jess is also a prolific author of books for children and has published more than 20 titles on animals and the natural world. In 2021 she was a World Book Day author with her title ‘Protect the Planet’. She also writes for publications including BBC Wildlife Magazine, The Guardian, Animal Planet and Science + Nature Magazine.
