A novel about teenage pregnancy and teenage friendship.
Story
Hannah is fifteen, smart, funny…and pregnant. Aaron is the new kid at school who’s trying not to attract attention, so why does he offer to be the pretend dad for Hannah’s baby?
Both of them will find out what really matters as they grow up quickly.
Why we chose it
A honest and unflinching novel for Young Adults about a teenage pregnancy told with wry humour and by believable teenage characters.
Where it came from
Non Pratt was inspired by listening to a radio show and becoming frustrated about how judgemental society was about teenage pregnancy. She wanted to write about the real human being behind the pregnancy. She also feels passionately about the theme of friendship in YA literature, as something all teenagers experience, which is a big feature of this book and her others.
Where it went next
The debut novel was long listed for the Carnegie Medal and shortlisted for the YA Book Prize, with rights being sold across the world. It was described as one of the most talked about debuts of the year, and ‘rib-achingly’ funny..
Associated stories
Non Pratt has written three other YA novels, Remix, Unboxed and Truth or Dare.
