The comic book adventures of Hilda in a world of mythical creatures.

Story

The main character is Hilda, a blue haired girl who lives in a world surrounded by mythical creatures. Hilda explores the world around her and has adventures in it, meeting extraordinary characters such as a troll.

Why we chose it

A beautifully drawn graphic novel featuring an adventurous heroine in a world inspired by Scandinavian folklore – look out for trolls and snowstorms.

Where it came from

The idea for the series came from Scandanavian folklore (“Huldufolk” are elves in Icelandic mythology) and a character Luke Pearson had been sketching for some time. When he was asked to create a new comic by Nobrow, he developed the sketch into Hilda.

Where it went next

Hildafolk was republished as Hilda and the Troll in 2013.

Netflix launched a TV adaptation in 2018.

Associated stories

There are a number of stories about Hilda, Hilda and the Midnight Giant (2011), Hilda and the Bird Parade (2012), Hilda and the Black Hound (2014), Hilda and the Stone Forest (2016) and Hilda and the Mountain King (2019).

Luke Pearson has also written and storyboarded a number of the Adventure Time episodes.
