A delightfully funny picture book about storybook stereotypes.
Story
Rolf lives with Mrs Boggins who tells him he’s a good little wolf. He likes baking cakes and is always kind to his friends. But he meets a large, ferocious wolf who tells him he isn’t a real wolf ; wolves are big and bad. What does he discover about himself?
Why we chose it
A favourite with our Learning Team, this is a great book to read aloud.
Where it came from
Nadia Shireen had always loved doodling and as a child made comics and magazines. She worked for a pop music company, but she was still doodling and so the company encouraged her to join an evening class in illustrating. She went on to do an MA in Illustration and then decided not only to draw but to write her own story. The result was Good Little Wolf.
Where it went next
The Good Little Wolf received a mention in the Bologna Ragazzi Opera Prima Award and won the UKLA Book Award. Nadia has since written and illustrated a number of other amusing picture books about animals, all for younger children. Certain of her books have been shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Waterstones Children’s book prize.
Associated stories
Other books by Nadia Shireen include Yeti the Bird, The Bumble Bear, The Cow who fell to Earth, Billy and the Beast and Billy and the Dragon.
