Every day a different body, every day a different experience, every day in love with the same girl. An unusual story about identity for young adults.

Story

A’ wakes up in a different body every morning, never knowing who it will be, just that they will be his age - 16. He lives by certain rules: don’t get too attached, avoid being noticed, don’t interfere.

However, when A wakes up in Justin’s body and meets his girlfriend Rhiannon, everything changes. The rules no longer apply because A has found someone he wants to be with every day. But how can that work?

Why we chose it

A compelling and thought provoking young adult novel which explores identity and first love in a truly original way.

Where it came from

David Levithan began with two questions when he came to write the book. What would it be like to live life free of gender, race, sexuality, family, friends, etc? And how could you love someone like that? He had no idea what the answers would be, so wrote the book to find out.

Many of David Levithan’s books are focused on inclusion and he is passionate about representation within YA fiction.

Where it went next

The book was a New York Times bestseller and there were several related stories written. A prequel novella came out the same year, and a companion novel, Another Day, written from Rhiannon’s perspective, was released in 2015. Someday, the sequel, was published in 2018.

Every Day was also adapted into a film in 2018.

Associated stories

David Levithan is the author or co-author of a number of bestselling YA books including Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List, Boy Meets Boy, and Will Grayson, Will Grayson. The first two were also turned into films.
