Story

The day to day adventures of Akissi, a girl who can’t seem to stay out of trouble whether it’s cats wanting her fish, her pet monkey in danger or her older brother getting annoyed with her.

Why we chose it

A bright colourful comic book about the day to day life of a girl growing up – and getting into mischief – in Yopougon, Ivory Coast.

Where it came from

Marguerite Abouet wanted to write about her childhood in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. She wanted to show the Africa that she knows and to make it real for her readers. The comic was published first in France. She moved to France when she was 12 and now lives in Paris.
